Patna Women’s College Hosts Nature Walk at Zoo to Celebrate Van Mahotsav

Patna: As part of the Van Mahotsav celebrations, students of Patna Women’s College took a walk on the green side on Saturday, with a nature-themed event designed to instil awareness about environmental protection and biodiversity.
Organised by the SRISHTI Environment Club in collaboration with the Department of Geography, the event saw over 150 students walk through the verdant landscape of Patna Zoo. The Nature Walk was not just a stroll but an interactive learning experience, guided by Dr Awadhesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography. Dr Kumar underscored the significance of appreciating biodiversity, indigenous plant life, and the broader need for environmental stewardship.
The initiative was coordinated by Meenakshi Mishra, Assistant Professor and Srishti Club Coordinator, who urged students to see local flora and fauna as key components in the fight against climate change. Fellow faculty members, including Ms Tulika, also joined the students, along with Environment and Discipline Secretary Shailja Gautam, who spoke on the ecological value of urban green zones such as the zoo.
In a symbolic continuation of the green campaign, a ‘Green Pledge Wall’ was installed at the college’s main gate, inviting faculty and students to pen their commitments and creative ideas for sustainability. The wall served as a public declaration of individual responsibility toward protecting the environment.
The initiative was held under the guidance of Dr Amrita Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Geography, and with the support of Dr Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College. Organisers described the event as a rejuvenating and reflective celebration of nature, aiming to deepen students’ engagement with environmental issues.
