Patna: Patna Women’s College observed Human Rights Day on Wednesday with a human chain and an interactive session aimed at raising awareness of dignity, equality and constitutional protections.
From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., students and faculty from the Department of Political Science formed a human chain outside the college gates, holding placards calling for justice, liberty, equality and human dignity. The organizers said the demonstration was meant to draw attention to global human rights concerns and the collective responsibility to address them. Students from undergraduate and postgraduate programmes took part.
Following the demonstration, the college hosted a discussion at BJ Sullivan Hall on the “Role of Judiciary in Safeguarding Human Rights in India”, led by Patna High Court advocate Kumar Harshvardhan. He spoke about constitutional guarantees, judicial activism and the courts’ responsibility as the guardians of fundamental rights.
The programme was anchored by Aditi Singh and Ritika Kumari, both from the undergraduate semester six. Ms Fiza Darakshan, assistant professor, addressed the gathering on behalf of the Political Science department, emphasizing the continued relevance of Human Rights Day. A sapling was presented to the guest as a gesture of appreciation.
Students from Political Science, Sociology and History engaged with the speaker during a question-and-answer session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sadia Rahmat of postgraduate semester four.
