Patna: A two-day practical training session in molecular biology has been conducted at Patna Women’s College, offering undergraduate students hands-on experience in core laboratory techniques.
Organised by the department of microbiology, the workshop – titled “Learning by Doing: Fundamentals of Molecular Biology” – was designed for fourth-semester students from both major and minor streams. It focused on genomic DNA isolation and analysis, aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and laboratory practice.

On the first day, students carried out genomic DNA isolation from different culture strains using standard laboratory protocols. The following day was dedicated to agarose gel electrophoresis, where participants prepared gels, loaded DNA samples and examined the results under ultraviolet light to confirm successful extraction.

The session was led by assistant professors Dr Niti Yashvardhini, Dr Preeti Swarupa and Dr Swetnisha, who supervised the training and guided students through each stage of the process.
Faculty members said the initiative aimed to strengthen practical skills while reinforcing conceptual understanding, highlighting the importance of experiential learning in molecular biology education.
