Patna: Patna Zoo will remain closed to visitors until Tuesday as restoration and cleanup work continues following the severe storm and heavy rainfall that battered Patna on Friday.
Officials said dozens of trees had collapsed inside the zoo premises during the storm, blocking internal roads and disrupting movement across large sections of the complex.
Cleanup Operations Continue On War Footing
Zoo authorities said cleanup operations continued throughout Saturday and would extend through Sunday.
Hemant Patil said several large trees had fallen across different parts of the zoo, requiring the deployment of Hydra cranes and JCB machines for removal.
More than 200 employees have reportedly been engaged in the restoration exercise.
Officials said special efforts were being made to ensure uninterrupted supply of food to animal enclosures despite blocked pathways inside the zoo.
Routes connecting the food storage warehouse to interior sections of the complex are currently being cleared.
Authorities said the zoo would reopen to the public on Tuesday after its routine weekly closure on Monday.
Bapu Tower Also Shut After Storm Damage
The impact of the storm was also visible at Bapu Tower, where several trees were uprooted and portions of the tower’s exterior structure sustained damage.
Officials said the tower would remain closed until next Monday as repair and restoration work continued.
The administration said public access would only resume after damaged sections had been fully repaired and safety inspections completed.
The storm, accompanied by strong winds and heavy rainfall, caused widespread disruption across Patna, uprooting trees, damaging infrastructure and triggering traffic congestion in several parts of the city.
