Patna: Rajkumar Guddu, the chairman of the Sultanganj Nagar Parishad, died on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Jay Prabha Medanta Super Specialty Hospital.
He had remained in critical condition since being shot during an attack at the municipal council office on April 28.
Officials said he succumbed to his injuries at around 9.28am despite prolonged treatment and intensive care support.
Shot In Broad Daylight At Municipal Office
According to police, the attack took place inside the Nagar Parishad office in Sultanganj in broad daylight.
Investigators alleged that notorious criminal Ramdhani Yadav and his associates entered the office armed with weapons and opened fire.
During the incident, Krishna Bhushan Kumar was killed on the spot, while Rajkumar Guddu sustained critical gunshot wounds to the abdomen and head.
He was initially treated in Bhagalpur before being shifted to Patna for advanced medical care.
Surgery, Ventilator Support And Death
Hospital officials said doctors attempted surgery to remove bullets lodged in his body.
As his condition deteriorated, he was placed on ventilator support in the intensive care unit.
Despite continued treatment, he died on Saturday morning.
Following his death, police took custody of the body and sent it to Patna Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination before handing it over to family members.
Main Accused Killed In Encounter
Following the shooting, Bihar Police and the Special Task Force launched a large-scale operation to trace those involved.
Police said the prime accused, Ramdhani Yadav, was later killed in an encounter with security forces.
Two other accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Investigators are continuing to probe the broader conspiracy and circumstances surrounding the attack.
Officials said Ramdhani Yadav was reportedly the husband of the deputy chairperson of the Nagar Parishad.
The death of Rajkumar Guddu triggered grief and anger among supporters and residents in Sultanganj and Bhagalpur, with authorities tightening security arrangements in the area.
