Patna: Patna’s infrastructure drive gained further momentum on Tuesday as Bihar’s Road Construction Minister and BJP MLA from Bankipur, Nitin Naveen, laid the foundation stone for three new roads in the city’s Ward 19, as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to ease traffic congestion and tackle chronic waterlogging.

Accompanied by local councillors and municipal officials, Naveen met with residents during the event, listened to civic grievances and directed officials on immediate redressal. Speaking to the media, the minister emphasised the state government’s commitment to ensuring smoother traffic flow and improved drainage systems across urban centres.

“The state government is working with urgency to address urban mobility and waterlogging issues under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme,” Naveen said. “These new roads will enhance connectivity and make commuting safer and more convenient for the public.”

The three road projects – all within the Bankipur Assembly segment – are being implemented at a total cost of Rs. 1.20 crore. The projects include:

  • Construction of an underground drainage system and PCC road in Aziz Lane (Rs. 38.97 lakh)
  • Similar works in Sita Sharan Lane (Rs. 42.93 lakh)
  • Road and drainage construction from Rajendra Gop’s residence to Shashi Bhushan Sinha’s house in Verma Cell Gali (Rs. 38.25 lakh)

All three are being executed by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUDICO), which is also responsible for building the accompanying underground drainage systems.

The initiative comes just two days after the minister launched infrastructure works worth over Rs. 2 crore in the area, involving five other road and drainage projects.

The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme, introduced in the 2024–25 fiscal year, aims to bolster civic infrastructure in municipalities. The scheme prioritises road projects that link residential areas with highways or arterial routes, particularly those serving hospitals, schools, and tourist destinations.

Additional plans under the scheme include installation of dividers, underground cabling, and street lighting, in a bid to modernise urban traffic management.
