Patna: Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh, is preparing to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, her father confirmed this week. However, Rambabu Singh added that his daughter would not run if Pawan Singh “adopts her again,” hinting at an emotional appeal amid their ongoing marital discord.
While the constituency and party are yet to be finalised, the Karakat seat is reportedly her preferred choice. Jyoti is said to have developed a rapport with voters in the area while campaigning for Pawan Singh during the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. Her recent meeting in Patna with political strategist and Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor has further intensified political discussions around her potential candidature.
Meanwhile, Pawan Singh, who recently rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has publicly stated that he will not be contesting the state elections. In a social media post on October 11, he wrote: “I did not join the party to contest the Bihar Assembly elections. I am and will remain a true soldier of the party.”
Marital Dispute and Public Allegations
The couple’s strained relationship has drawn widespread media attention in recent weeks. On October 5, Jyoti visited Pawan Singh’s Lucknow residence, where a heated exchange reportedly led to police intervention. In a video shared on social media, Jyoti appeared visibly distressed and alleged that she was being harassed, saying she would “end her life” if denied justice.
Days earlier, Jyoti had announced on social media that she was travelling to Lucknow to meet her husband. Following the visit, she accused the actor of infidelity and emotional abuse, claiming he stayed with another woman during his election campaign.
“Pawan Singh used me for campaigning and stayed in hotels with another woman. No respectable woman would tolerate this,” she alleged, adding that she had been “detained and tortured” after visiting his home.
Pawan Singh’s Response
Responding to the controversy, Pawan Singh took to social media on October 6, asserting that he “respects the public as God” and would not act against their trust. He claimed the police presence at his Lucknow residence was for precautionary reasons and dismissed claims that he had called them himself.
“Family conversations happen in the room, not on camera,” the actor later said at a press conference on October 8. “Why did this closeness appear only a month before the elections? How low can you stoop to become an MLA?”
A Tumultuous Relationship
Pawan Singh, known for his hit songs such as Lollipop Lagelu and Kamariya Hila Rahi Hai, married Jyoti Singh in March 2018, three years after the death of his first wife, Neelam Singh, who died by suicide in 2015.
Their marriage soon faced turbulence, with Jyoti accusing the actor of domestic abuse and coercion. Pawan filed for divorce in 2021 in Arrah Family Court, where the case remains pending.
Despite appearing reconciled during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when Jyoti campaigned for him as an independent candidate from Karakat, tensions resurfaced soon after the polls. Jyoti has since repeatedly appealed for the restoration of their relationship.
As Bihar prepares for the Assembly elections, Jyoti Singh’s potential entry into politics — amid a bitter personal feud and public scrutiny — is drawing both political and social intrigue across the state.
