Patna: Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi inaugurated a three-day exhibition cum trade fair at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana. The event aims to bolster traditional artisans and craftsmen across Bihar by providing them with technical, economic, and marketing support.

Speaking at the inauguration, Manjhi announced the opening of 30 centers—10 technology centers, 10 extension centers, and 10 common facility centers across Bihar. These centers are expected to generate employment opportunities for lakhs of youth in the state. The first technology center, located in Gaya, will become operational in November. The Bihar government has already provided 20 acres of land for this project. Another center is planned for Purnea, with the state government being requested to allocate land.

Highlighting the significant role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India’s economic growth, Manjhi said, “MSMEs contribute 46% of the country’s exports, and they have the largest share in agriculture and exports. Empowering the poor is essential for the country’s development, and the PM Vishwakarma Yojana was launched with this vision.” The scheme aims to spend ₹13,000 crore to uplift traditional artisans and craftsmen.

Manjhi emphasized the need for skill development among the youth to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. “The primary goal of this trade fair is to strengthen traditional artisans and craftsmen, both in rural and urban areas, by providing them with the necessary tools, technology, and market access,” he added.

Under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, selected beneficiaries from a wide range of professions—including carpenters, goldsmiths, potters, tailors, and shoemakers—will receive an honorarium of ₹3,000, toolkits worth up to ₹5,000, and loans of up to ₹3 lakh at a 5% concessional interest rate during their skill training.

Various departments, including banks, the National Small Industries Corporation, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, and Jan Seva Kendras, set up stalls at the exhibition to share information about their schemes. Those interested in availing themselves of the benefits under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana can register at the Jan Seva Kendra stall on-site.

The trade fair, which runs for three days, is expected to see active participation from artisans, craftsmen, and entrepreneurs from across the state.
