Purnia: Tensions have escalated for Bima Bharti, a five-time MLA from the Rupauli assembly, as police confiscated her residence in connection with the high-profile Gopal Yaduka murder case in Purnia. The confiscation occurred at Bharti’s house in Bhatta, as authorities intensify their crackdown on suspects linked to the case.
Bharti’s husband, Awadhesh Mandal, and son, Raja, are accused of involvement in the murder of local businessman Gopal Yaduka. While Mandal surrendered at the Purnia Civil Court on August 5 and has since been in custody, Raja remains on the run, evading arrest since his name emerged in the investigation.
Both Bharti’s husband and son were initially absconding when implicated in the murder, prompting police to issue a notice of attachment on Bharti’s residence on July 3. This legal action came as law enforcement sought to pressure the fugitives into surrendering ahead of the impending by-election.
On August 5, Awadhesh Mandal, who is accused of conspiring in the murder, surrendered in court, leading to his immediate remand in judicial custody for 14 days. Despite having secured an arrest warrant for Raja, police were unable to apprehend him, prompting them to seek a court order for the attachment of his assets.
The court approved the request, leading to a heavy police presence at Bharti’s residence as authorities moved to seize the property. The Rupouli police station chief led the operation.
