Muzaffarpur: Police in Muzaffarpur, shot and injured a man allegedly involved in several high-profile murder cases during an armed confrontation. The suspect, identified as Lalbabu Rai, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently receiving treatment at a government medical facility.
According to police, the encounter occurred near Barmatpur Litchi Orchard in the Sadar police station area, following a tip-off about a planned criminal act. When officers approached the site shortly after midnight, they were met with gunfire from a group of armed individuals. In what officials described as an act of self-defence, police returned fire, injuring one suspect while two others fled under cover of darkness.
Lalbabu, a resident of the Saraiya police station area, is reportedly a known offender with a record spanning multiple murder cases. Police say he was recently implicated in the fatal shooting of Ramnavami Chaudhary, husband of a Panchayat Samiti member, in the Patahi area. He is also suspected in the earlier killing of Chaudhary’s cousin, Tuntun Chaudhary, among other cases pending across several police jurisdictions.
Authorities recovered a firearm, several live rounds, and spent cartridges from the scene. “The police team was fired upon first, and responded in self-defence. One suspect was injured and is in custody, while raids are ongoing to apprehend the others,” said Binita Sinha, Additional Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Nagar Area.
