Patna: A large police contingent reached the government residence of Rabri Devi at 10 Circular Road in Patna on Saturday amid an ongoing dispute over the vacation of the bungalow.
According to officials, the police team was led by SDPO (Secretariat) Anu Kumari, who entered the premises. The development comes days after Rabri Devi, upon returning to Patna from Ghaziabad, said she would not vacate the residence despite repeated notices from the state government. She also challenged Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, stating that if the government wanted the bungalow vacated, it could send a force to remove her from the premises.
Fresh Eviction Notice Issued
The Bihar Building Construction Department has issued another notice directing Rabri Devi to vacate the bungalow. Officials said the notice was issued on Friday and is the third such communication sent regarding the property.
According to the department, the residence at 10 Circular Road has now been allotted to Bihar Animal Husbandry Minister Nand Kishore Ram. The notice states that the premises must be vacated immediately to facilitate the transfer of possession.
Alternative Residence Already Allotted
The department said a government residence at 39 Harding Road was allotted to Rabri Devi in November 2025 in her capacity as Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council.
Officials maintain that despite the allotment of the alternative accommodation, the former chief minister has continued to occupy the Circular Road bungalow. The department has argued that retaining both residences is not permissible under existing allotment rules.
Residence Occupied Since 2005
The bungalow at 10 Circular Road has been associated with the family of Lalu Prasad Yadav since 2005. The family has resided there for nearly two decades.
According to the Building Construction Department, repeated requests have been made over the past six months for the family to shift to the allotted residence at Harding Road. Officials claim that the requests have not been complied with so far.
Earlier Notice Also Sent
Department officials said a similar notice had been served approximately a month ago. At that time, authorities had informed Rabri Devi that the Harding Road residence had been allotted to her as Leader of the Opposition and that vacating the previous government accommodation was mandatory.
Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad Yadav is currently in Singapore for a routine medical check-up. No official statement from the family regarding the latest police deployment had been issued at the time of publication.
