Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) has made it mandatory for all its colleges to establish placement and training units aimed at preparing students for employment alongside their academic studies.
The university has directed colleges to submit details of the coordinators heading their placement and training units through an online Google form. A link for submitting the information has also been shared with the colleges.
Focus On Employability
The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of students who seek employment after completing their studies.
The placement and training units will help students prepare for job interviews, develop relevant skills and connect with companies and potential recruiters.
Colleges will also be expected to link students with career counselling and skill development programmes to help them understand employment opportunities and prepare for recruitment processes.
Placement Cells To Remain Active
The university has made it clear that the placement and training units should not remain limited to a formal setup.
The cells are expected to function regularly and undertake activities that directly support students’ career preparation and employment prospects.
This could include organising training programmes, career guidance sessions and recruitment-related activities on college campuses.
Companies To Be Invited For Campus Recruitment
According to a letter issued by PPU Registrar Prof Abu Bakar Rizvi, colleges will have to coordinate with the university’s Training and Placement Officer (TPO).
The objective is to invite companies to college campuses and create opportunities for students to participate in direct recruitment drives.
Such campus-based recruitment could allow students to interact directly with employers and participate in selection processes without having to seek opportunities independently.
Colleges Asked To Share Coordinator Details
As part of the implementation process, all colleges have been asked to provide complete details of the coordinators responsible for their placement and training units.
The information is to be submitted through the online form issued by the university.
The move places greater responsibility on individual colleges to maintain functional placement mechanisms and coordinate with the university’s central placement system.
Skills And Career Support
Along with recruitment opportunities, the initiative will focus on skills that can improve students’ readiness for the workplace.
Interview preparation, skill development and career counselling are expected to form part of the activities undertaken by the placement and training units.
By making such units mandatory across its colleges, PPU aims to create a more structured system for connecting students with employers and supporting their transition from higher education to the workplace.
