Saharsa: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi addressed a rally in Saharsa on Monday, warning voters that the recent practice of “vote cutting” could undermine their rights and equating it to a loss of citizenship.
“Recently, these people cut 6.5 million votes through SIR,” Gandhi said, referring to alleged electoral manipulations. “What does this mean? Your rights are being curtailed. You are being weakened. You will not receive government benefits. Losing your votes means the loss of citizenship. This is a big conspiracy.”

During her address, Gandhi also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders, accusing them of wasting citizens’ time with trivial disputes. “Whenever anything happens in the country, these people blame us. They should establish a Ministry of Insults. The Prime Minister’s time is very precious, so they should establish a separate Ministry of Insults,” she said.
She also targeted Bihar’s government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying it has been under central influence for 20 years. “Today, the Chief Minister in Bihar is not respected. Your Chief Minister is not being heard. Senior BJP leaders only talk about the past,” Gandhi added.
The rally also saw a brief disruption when Purnia MP Pappu Yadav pushed aside leaders to join Gandhi during her garlanding ceremony and posed for photographs with her.
Gandhi accused the ruling parties of attempting to influence voters with cash incentives ahead of elections. “Elections are coming, so they’re distributing 10,000 rupees. Take it, but vote wisely,” she said. She framed the distribution as exploitative, questioning the government’s intentions.
Addressing women in the audience, Gandhi highlighted safety concerns, saying crimes against women in Bihar are increasing. “Women are unsafe. They are worried about their children and daughters. Even if they want to go out to earn money, they can’t. Nitish Kumar has nothing left in Bihar. The government here is run from Delhi,” she said. Gandhi urged citizens to take active steps to change the situation.
