Patna: Prof. KC Sinha, a renowned mathematician and former Jan Suraaj Party leader, is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, according to party sources. The induction is expected to take place in the presence of BJP leader Nitin Nabin and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The development comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the Bankipur Assembly by-election and is being seen as a setback for the Jan Suraaj Party led by Prashant Kishor.
Academic Career and Public Profile
Prof. KC Sinha hails from Bhojpur district in Bihar. After completing his early education there, he earned gold medals in both his BSc and MSc degrees before joining Patna Science College as a professor of mathematics.
He is widely recognised for his contributions to mathematics education. Prof. Sinha has authored more than 70 books, many of which are widely used by students preparing for school and competitive examinations across Bihar and other parts of the country.
His academic standing has earned him a strong following among students and the state’s educational community.
Political Journey
Prof. Sinha joined the Jan Suraaj Party ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections and contested from the Kumhrar Assembly constituency.
In the three-cornered contest, he secured 15,017 votes and finished third. BJP candidate Sanjay Kumar won the seat, while Congress candidate Indradeep Chandravanshi finished second.
Significance Ahead of Bankipur By-election
Prof. Sinha’s move to the BJP comes at a politically significant time as parties prepare for the Bankipur Assembly by-election.
Political observers believe the BJP may seek to highlight the induction of a respected academic with influence among students and sections of the urban middle class in Patna. For the Jan Suraaj Party, the departure comes as it continues efforts to strengthen its organisational presence and electoral performance in the state.
The BJP has not yet made an official statement on the induction, though party sources have confirmed that the joining ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday.
