Patna: The Bihar government has accelerated the process of bringing the historic properties of Bettiah Raj under state ownership by issuing notifications covering more than 7,272 acres of land spread across six districts.
The Department of Revenue and Land Reforms said the notifications formally begin the legal process of vesting the identified Bettiah Raj properties in the State of Bihar. Officials said the exercise is being carried out in accordance with the provisions of the relevant 2024/2026 Act and Rules governing the vesting of Bettiah Raj assets.
More Than 7,272 Acres Identified
According to the department, the notified land is located across East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, Siwan and Patna districts.
District-wise details released by the government show:
- East Champaran: 7,194.56 acres
- Gopalganj: 35.58 acres
- West Champaran: 14.77 acres
- Patna: 11.49 acres
- Saran: 8.47 acres
- Siwan: 7.29 acres
Together, these parcels account for 7,272.16 acres, with East Champaran containing the overwhelming majority of the notified land.

Government Says Process Will Be Transparent
Revenue and Land Reforms Secretary Jai Singh said the notifications contain detailed records of every land parcel, including the concerned circle (Anchal), village (Mauza), police station number, Khata number, Khesra number and land area.
According to the department, publishing these details is intended to ensure transparency, minimise future disputes and maintain a clear legal record of the properties.
Historic Assets To Be Preserved
Jai Singh said the properties of Bettiah Raj represent not only valuable land but also an important part of Bihar’s historical heritage.
He said the government’s objective is to systematically document, preserve and manage these assets while ensuring that they are utilised in the broader public interest after being vested in the state.

Land May Be Used For Public Projects
According to the department, once the legal vesting process is completed, the land could be used for government development schemes, public infrastructure and welfare projects, subject to applicable laws and administrative decisions.
Officials also said bringing the assets under state ownership would help improve record management and strengthen the long-term preservation of historically significant properties.
Next Steps
The Revenue and Land Reforms Department said the notifications will take effect from the date of their publication in the official gazette.
Following publication, district administrations and revenue officials in the concerned districts will carry out the remaining legal and administrative procedures required to complete the vesting of the identified Bettiah Raj properties in the State of Bihar.
