Gaya: A shocking murder took place in the Nai Bazaar locality of the Sherghati police station area in Gaya district on the night of Vijayadashami, where a 35-year-old man was shot dead by his cousin following a property dispute.
Police identified the deceased as Deepak, who was unmarried. The accused, Rajesh, allegedly invited Deepak to his home for a liquor party, during which he shot him four times with a country-made pistol. After committing the crime, Rajesh walked into the Sherghati police station and confessed to killing his “brother.”
Accused Confesses, Body Recovered
According to police, Rajesh informed officers that a dead body was lying in his room. When a police team reached the scene, they recovered Deepak’s blood-soaked body along with four cartridges and the weapon used in the crime. A crowd gathered outside Rajesh’s house as the news spread.
Dispute Over Ancestral Property
Investigations revealed that the two cousins had a long-standing conflict over property left behind by their late uncle, Dwarika Prasad.
About 35 years ago, Dwarika Prasad had found an abandoned infant at the Sherghati bus stand, whom he adopted and named Deepak. He raised him with care, and before his death, Dwarika transferred his property, including a guest house, to Deepak through a will.
While Deepak rented out the guest house to sustain himself, Rajesh reportedly grew resentful over being excluded from the inheritance. Police believe this resentment ultimately led to the murder.
Murder Planned During Liquor Party
According to police sources, Rajesh had invited Deepak to his house on Vijayadashami under the pretext of a liquor party. After drinking together, Rajesh allegedly executed his plan, firing four bullets into Deepak’s chest, killing him instantly.
Police Statement
Confirming the incident, trainee DSP and Sherghati station chief Abhishek Kumar said, “A young man named Deepak has been murdered. The accused has surrendered himself. Preliminary investigations suggest a property dispute as the motive, but further questioning is underway.”
Police have arrested Rajesh and initiated further investigation.
