Purnea/Patna: The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is preparing to launch a dedicated pink bus service for female students in Purnea and Saharsa divisions, aimed at improving safe and convenient transport for those travelling to colleges and universities.
Under the plan, one pink bus each will be deployed in seven districts — Purnea, Araria, Katihar, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura and Supaul.
The initiative is intended primarily for female students pursuing higher education, with services expected to align with college and university schedules.
Route planning underway
Officials said route charts are being prepared to ensure maximum convenience for students. Routes with a higher concentration of female students are likely to be prioritised.
At present, the Purnea bus division has 10 pink buses, of which seven are being readied for allocation across the identified districts.
The transport department said the objective is to provide a safe, affordable and comfortable public transport option, particularly for students travelling from remote rural areas.
Safety arrangements planned
The buses will include measures aimed at enhancing passenger safety. Women conductors will be deployed on the services, though male drivers will operate the buses for now due to the unavailability of female drivers.
Officials said regular services could ease commuting challenges for students and improve access to higher education.
What officials said
Pratik Kumar Jha, Regional Manager of BSRTC, said preparations were in progress to introduce seven pink buses across Purnea and Saharsa divisions.
“The service will begin once route determination and administrative formalities are completed,” he said.
