Purnia: A 19-year-old youth was beaten to death after he went to meet his girlfriend in Amari village under Dhamdaha police station area of Purnia district. The incident, which took place on Wednesday evening, turned fatal when the victim, identified as Rishu Kumar, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Friday morning.
According to police, Rishu Kumar, son of Naveen Paswan of Rajghat Garel village in Dhamdaha, had been in a relationship with a girl from Amari village for the past two years. The girl’s family reportedly opposed the affair, allegedly because of caste differences, and was preparing to get her married elsewhere.
On August 20, Rishu was allegedly called to the girl’s house after she told him her family had agreed to their relationship. However, upon his arrival, he was attacked with sticks and sharp weapons by members of the girl’s family.
Family’s Allegations
Rishu’s relatives alleged that the girl lured him on the instructions of her family, who then carried out the assault. His brother, Balbir Paswan, claimed that around 25 people, including the girl’s father Prakash Sahni, mother, and brother Bittu Sahni, were involved in the attack.
“My brother and the girl had been together since college. The girl told him that her family had accepted their relationship, but it was a trap. As soon as he reached her house, they attacked him with sharp weapons,” Balbir alleged.
Rishu’s sister, Reema, claimed that more than 50 people had surrounded and beaten her brother. “He was brutally assaulted. Even when my elder brother went to rescue him, he was also attacked. The girl’s family wanted to eliminate him at any cost,” she said.
Treatment and Death
Following the attack, Rishu was rushed to GMCH, Purnia, in critical condition. Doctors later referred him to PMCH in Patna, where he died during treatment on Friday morning.
Police Action
Dhamdaha police conducted a post-mortem and handed over the body to Rishu’s family. A murder case has been registered against 25 people, including the girl’s father, mother, and brother. Police officials said that the accused family has fled the village, and efforts are underway to trace them.
