Shahjahanpur: A case has been filed against Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav at Sadar Bazar police station in Shahjahanpur for allegedly making indecent remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The complaint, lodged by BJP Metropolitan President Shilpi Gupta, cited a post from the official RJD X account at 6:58 am on Friday, which allegedly included objectionable comments about the Prime Minister along with his photograph. A copy of the post has been attached as evidence.
During a press conference later that afternoon at the RJD office in Patna, Tejaswi Prasad reportedly referred to the Prime Minister as a pickpocket, stating, “We do not want a pickpocket PM.” The statement prompted Shilpi to call for strict action, claiming it hurt public sentiment.
Shahjahanpur SP Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed that the FIR has been registered under sections 353(2) and 197(1)(a) of the Indian Penal Code, and investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a similar case has also been registered in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra following a complaint from BJP MLA Milind Narote. The Maharashtra case cites sections 196, 356, 352, and 353 of the IPC, covering promotion of enmity between groups, defamation, intentional insult, and statements affecting public order.
Tejashwi Yadav has yet to comment on the legal proceedings, which are currently under investigation in both states.
