Purnia to Get 50 Electric Buses, Enhancing Connectivity to Bhagalpur, Araria, Katihar, and Siliguri
Purnia: Fifty electric buses will soon operate on routes connecting Purnia with Bhagalpur, Katihar, Araria, and Siliguri (West Bengal), as part of Bihar’s efforts to enhance sustainable transport.
Infrastructure and Route Planning Underway
The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is finalizing plans for charging infrastructure, with charging points set to be installed at depots and other key locations. A senior BSRTC official in Purnia confirmed that the department is mapping potential sites for additional charging stations.
Luxury Buses to Launch in February
The official also revealed that by February 2025, three dozen luxury buses equipped with modern amenities will be introduced. These buses aim to offer enhanced comfort and convenience for passengers.
The 50 electric buses are expected to be available within six months, providing eco-friendly and cost-effective transport options for passengers traveling between Purnia, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Araria, and Siliguri.
Previous Expansions in Public Transport
In December 2023, the Bihar government had allocated eight new buses to Purnia, two of which currently operate successfully on the Jogbani-Siliguri route. Other buses have been deployed on routes connecting Saharsa, Patna, Vishanpur, and Bhagalpur.
The expansion of electric and luxury buses is part of Bihar’s broader push to modernize public transport and promote eco-friendly mobility across the state.
