Patna: Authorities in Patna have stepped up surveillance ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the city, with police and cyber officials on high alert to curb the spread of misinformation online.
The cyber cell has been tasked with monitoring social media platforms to prevent the circulation of fake or misleading news that could disturb public order during Gandhi’s programme. “Strict monitoring is being done on social media to ensure no panic is created through false information. Action will be taken against those responsible,” said Cyber DSP Nitish Chandra Dhariya, who also urged the public to verify information before sharing it.
Gandhi is expected to arrive in Patna today. On September 1, he will lead a march themed From Gandhi to Ambedkar alongside Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav. Party workers will gather at Gandhi Maidan before the leaders garland Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and set off on a foot march at 11.15am towards Ambedkar Park.
The city administration has put additional security measures in place. Sensitive areas along the route will be under CCTV surveillance, while police patrols will monitor the procession. Plainclothes officers are also expected to be deployed, and security agencies remain on high alert.
