Patna : Indian Railways has introduced a shareable UTS season ticket facility on the RailOne app, allowing registered passengers to book season tickets from home for themselves and eligible family members or other passengers.
The facility was introduced on September 2, 2026, and is aimed at reducing the need to visit railway ticket counters and wait in queues.
Under the new system, a registered user can book one season ticket for themselves and up to five additional season tickets for eligible passengers, subject to railway rules.
One User Can Book Up To Six Tickets
A passenger booking a season ticket for themselves must be at least 18 years old. For tickets booked for other passengers, the minimum age is five years, according to the new provisions.
A season ticket booked for the user themselves can be used from the same day after successful geo-fencing verification.
However, a season ticket booked for another passenger becomes valid from the following day.
The facility is designed to allow families and groups of eligible passengers to manage their season tickets through a single registered RailOne account.
Photo And QR Code To Verify Tickets
The shareable season ticket includes the passenger’s photograph and a QR code, which can be used by railway ticket-checking staff to verify the passenger’s identity and ticket validity.
During travel, passengers must carry either a clear printed copy of the valid season ticket or its PDF version on their mobile device.
RailOne booking receipts, invoices and copies of UTS paper tickets generated through the app will not be treated as valid travel documents.
Passengers have been advised to keep the ticket and QR code clear and intact throughout the validity period.
If the QR code is damaged, altered or becomes unreadable, digital verification may not be possible. In such cases, the passenger may be treated as travelling without a valid ticket under railway rules.
Ticket Checking To Use QR-Enabled HHTs
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has also briefed ticket-checking personnel about the new booking and verification process.
Train ticket examiners, station staff and checking teams have been instructed to use updated Hand-Held Terminal (HHT) applications with QR-code scanning capability.
The system will allow staff to scan the QR code and verify the season ticket digitally.
Railways said the new facility is intended to make season ticket booking more convenient while strengthening digital verification and ticket security.
Passengers using the RailOne app have been advised to carry a valid season ticket with the required photograph and QR code while travelling.
