Patna: Bihar is set for another change in weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for the next 48 hours. During this period, temperatures across several parts of the state are likely to drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, bringing a slight chill back to early mornings and nights.
At the same time, a yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in five districts of the state. Morning visibility in these areas is expected to remain low, which may affect road and rail traffic. In Patna, light cloud cover is likely with spells of sunshine during the day.
According to the weather department, foggy conditions may continue in Bihar for the next three days. Night temperatures could dip 1 to 2 degrees below normal. However, from February 10 onwards, the intensity of cold is expected to reduce gradually.
Why Fog Is Forming in Bihar
Weather scientists say several factors are responsible for the dense fog in the state. A western disturbance active over North India is slowly weakening, but it has left behind sufficient moisture in the atmosphere.
During the night, falling temperatures cool the air near the ground. In the daytime, mild sunshine warms the surface slightly. This temperature variation causes water vapour in the air to condense into tiny droplets, forming fog. In addition, very low wind speeds are preventing the moisture from dispersing, making the fog denser during early morning hours.
Dry Weather Likely Till February 8
The Patna Meteorological Centre has indicated a gradual rise in minimum temperatures in the coming days, which will reduce the impact of cold. Bihar is expected to witness dry weather conditions till February 8. Although a western disturbance is affecting north-western India, it is unlikely to have a direct impact on Bihar.
Patna to Remain Slightly Warmer Than Normal
In the state capital, Patna, weather conditions are expected to remain near normal. Light fog or haze may be seen in the mornings, but the chances of very dense fog are low. Daytime sunshine will push temperatures slightly upward, while mornings and nights will continue to feel cold.
The weather centre has forecast that over the next three to four days, the minimum temperature may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. In the next 48 hours, Patna’s minimum temperature is likely to remain between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may range from 22 to 24 degrees Celsius. Due to calm wind conditions, cold and haze may persist during early hours.
