Patna: A gang known for targeting unoccupied flats in upscale areas of Patna while arriving in luxury cars has been busted, police said on Monday. The group, dubbed the “Rais Chor Gang”, had been operating in the Shastrinagar area and was uncovered following two major thefts last month.
One of the gang’s key members, identified as Pradyum alias Vicky, a resident of Tanitar village in the Khusrupur police station area, was arrested by Shastrinagar police. Authorities recovered Rs 2.12 lakh in cash, jewellery estimated at around Rs 5 lakh, demonetised currency worth Rs 84,000, and the car used during the burglaries. Raids are ongoing to apprehend other absconding members of the gang.
The gang came under the police radar after two break-ins in June—on the 16th and 28th respectively. The first was reported at RJ Enclave Apartment on Gokul Path, where the suspects forced entry into a flat while the residents were away in Chandigarh. The second incident occurred at Vrindavan Garden Apartment near Ramnagari Turn on Digha-Ashiana Road, where thieves once again broke into a locked flat and escaped with cash and jewellery.
Following these incidents, a special investigation team was formed under the supervision of DSP Secretariat Two, as directed by City SP Diksha Sharma. CCTV footage from the crime scenes proved pivotal in the investigation, showing four individuals arriving and leaving in a car, which was later traced to Vicky.
During questioning, the arrested suspect revealed the gang’s modus operandi and provided names of other accomplices. Acting on the leads, police have recovered part of the stolen cash and valuables.
