Rajgir/Patna: The historic town of Rajgir in Nalanda district, long known for its religious and cultural significance, is set to expand its appeal with a new adventure tourism project: a cliff walk designed to offer visitors a high-altitude thrill experience.
The proposed structure follows the success of the glass skywalk at the Rajgir Nature Safari, which has already drawn large numbers of tourists. Officials say the new project is being designed with younger visitors and adventure enthusiasts in mind.
According to preliminary plans, the cliff walk will run along steep rock faces, allowing visitors to traverse narrow pathways overlooking deep valleys. The experience is intended to simulate the sensation of “walking in the air”, with expansive views of surrounding greenery adding to the sense of height and exposure.
Authorities say the new walkway will be longer and more challenging than the existing glass bridge, positioning it as a major attraction for visitors seeking a more intense experience.
The structure is expected to be built along the rugged terrain of the Jethian Hills, an area known for its natural beauty and relatively undisturbed environment. Its proximity to the nature safari site is expected to create a cluster of attractions in a single location.
Officials involved in the project said detailed scientific surveys have already been conducted. These included assessments of soil stability and rock strength using modern techniques to ensure that the construction is safe and durable.
Environmental considerations are also being factored into the planning process. Authorities say studies of water levels, mineral composition and the natural landscape are being undertaken to minimise ecological disruption.
The project is part of a broader effort by the state government to position Bihar as a destination for adventure tourism. If completed as planned, the cliff walk could draw visitors from across India and abroad, while also generating employment opportunities for local communities.
Tourism officials say Rajgir’s transformation reflects a shift in strategy: from a destination primarily associated with heritage and spirituality to one that also offers high-adrenaline experiences.
