Rajgir/ Patna: The cricket stadium under construction in Rajgir, Bihar, is nearing completion, with work progressing rapidly to meet international standards. Spearheaded by the state’s Building Construction Department, the facility is poised to become a significant hub for cricket in the region, offering a new platform for local talent and the possibility of hosting national and international matches.
A key feature of the project is the pitch, for which high-quality red soil has been sourced from Maharashtra to ensure top-tier playing conditions. In addition, black soil from Mokama is being used to construct seven auxiliary pitches. Grass has already been laid across much of the field, and efforts are now concentrated on finalising the playing surface and surrounding structures.
The stadium spans an area of 72,843 square metres and will have a seating capacity of 40,000. Designed to include cutting-edge facilities, the complex will feature dedicated pavilions for players, separate accommodations for coaches and managers, and a VVIP stand.
Construction on the main pavilion’s framework is complete, with finishing touches such as plastering, wiring, and putty work currently underway. The civil works for the General Stand East, General Stand West, and the Reverse Pavilion are also being fast-tracked.
Kumar Ravi, Secretary of the Building Construction Department, confirmed that international standards are guiding the stadium’s development. He added that a comprehensive drainage system is being installed to mitigate the impact of the upcoming monsoon season.
With the project nearing its final stages, Rajgir’s cricket stadium is set to become a landmark for sport in Bihar, promising improved training facilities and the chance for local players to shine on a global stage.
