Patna: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the petitioner to mention a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on June 29 concerning allegations of financial irregularities in donations made for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The petition relates to claims of alleged misappropriation and seeks a court-monitored investigation into the management of funds received by the temple trust.
PIL Seeks Independent Probe
The PIL, filed by advocates Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav, seeks the formation of a multi-disciplinary Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe alleged financial irregularities linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The petition also requests directions for registration of an FIR and a time-bound, independent investigation into the allegations.
Supreme Court Proceedings
The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, following an urgent hearing request.
During the hearing, the petitioner informed the court that the PIL had been registered but no listing date had been assigned. The bench noted that if no procedural defects existed, the Registry would complete formalities.
The court observed that the petitioner could mention the matter on June 29 for listing.
Allegations and Demands Raised
According to the petition, concerns have been raised over alleged irregularities in donation funds collected for the Ram Temple movement.
It seeks regulatory and audit mechanisms involving the Central Government, the Uttar Pradesh Government, and the trust to ensure transparency in fund management.
The petition argues that reports of alleged financial discrepancies have raised concerns among donors and supporters associated with the temple movement.
Uttar Pradesh SIT Already in Place
The petition also refers to an ongoing inquiry initiated by a Special Investigation Team constituted by the Uttar Pradesh Government on June 13.
The SIT was formed following a request from the Ram Mandir Trust and includes senior administrative and police officials to examine allegations of fund misuse.
The team is currently conducting an investigation, though no FIR has been registered, as noted in the petition.
Next Hearing Focus
All eyes are now on June 29, when the petitioner is expected to mention the matter for listing before the Supreme Court.
The court’s decision on whether to entertain the plea for a detailed hearing will determine the next stage of proceedings.
