Patna: River tourism in Patna has gained renewed momentum following the relaunch of a Ro-Pax cruise service operating along the Ganges River. The service, connecting Digha Ghat and Minar Ghat, offers passengers a scenic journey through the city’s riverfront while highlighting its cultural and historical landscape. The cruise is being operated by the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited.
Officials said the vessel is currently running during evening hours, with departures dependent on passenger availability as awareness about the service gradually increases. Plans are also underway to introduce a canteen facility at the boarding point to enhance visitor comfort and extend onboard amenities.
Passengers can access the cruise at a fare of Rs 250 per person, which includes a round trip lasting about 40 minutes. Travelling at an average speed of nearly 15 km/h, the cruise provides panoramic views of the city’s skyline, riverbanks and heritage sites, positioning the experience as both recreational and tourism-focused.
The vessel underwent maintenance at a dry dock facility in Kolkata, where approximately 50 lakh was spent on technological upgrades and structural refurbishment. Mandatory dry docking, conducted every five years, ensures thorough inspection of engine performance, structural integrity and onboard safety systems before vessels resume operations.
With a capacity of around 300 passengers, the upgraded cruise Swami Paramhans is expected to emerge as a prominent attraction in the city’s tourism portfolio. Authorities believe the relaunch will strengthen river-based leisure activities while supporting broader tourism development goals. The vessel is also available for private bookings, with rental tariffs starting at Rs 30,000 for one hour and rising to Rs 1.5 lakh for extended eight-hour use.
