Patna: A 78-year-old retired teacher was found murdered in her home near AG Colony Park in Shastri Nagar on Wednesday morning, police said. The woman, identified as Madhavi Kumari, had suffered multiple stab wounds, including a fatal cut to her throat.
Madhavi Kumari lived alone in the building. Authorities reported that while some of her jewellery was missing, other household items appeared untouched. Her body was taken into custody by the Shastri Nagar police, who have launched a full investigation into the killing.
Madhavi Kumari is survived by three children. Her elder son, Ujjwal, is a professor in Dehradun, while her younger son, Utkal Kumar, works for Bank of America in Delhi. Her daughter, who runs a dance class in the same building, was reportedly alerted by a neighbour who first discovered the crime scene.
Neighbours said Madhavi’s husband, Amarendra Kumar Das, who retired from the AG office eight years ago, passed away six years ago.
A woman from the neighbourhood, who arrived at the scene before the authorities, has been detained by police and is currently being questioned. She declined to speak to the media.
Sectariat SDPO 2 Saket Kumar, along with local police and a forensic team, visited the property to carry out the investigation. “The Shastri Nagar police station received information about an incident at House Number C71 in AG Colony, and the Station House Officer immediately reached the scene to verify the report,” Saket Kumar said. Police have not yet released further details about possible suspects or motives.
