Patna: At least five people were killed and ten others injured after a container truck collided with vehicles carrying wedding guests in Rohtas district early on Monday, police said.
The incident took place around 3.30am near Belvaiyan Mathiya village on the Ara–Mohania National Highway (NH-319), within the limits of Dinara Police Station.
Collision After Guests Alighted
According to officials, the victims were returning from a tilak ceremony in Mathiya village when the accident occurred. After disembarking from a bus, some of the guests were heading towards their homes when a speeding container truck struck a pickup van and the bus.
Police said the truck, reportedly coming from the Maliyabag side, lost control before crashing into the stationary vehicles.
Casualties And Rescue
Five people died at the scene, while ten others sustained injuries. Local residents alerted the police, who arrived shortly after and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Some were later referred to other facilities for further treatment.
Driver Absconds, Probe Under Way
The driver of the container truck fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, police said. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.
Officials said efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the driver, while further inquiries into the incident continue.
