Bikramganj/Patna: A gang of armed men allegedly robbed a jewellery shop in broad daylight in Bihar’s Rohtas district on Sunday, escaping with ornaments worth lakhs of rupees after holding the shopkeeper at gunpoint, police said.
The robbery took place at Heera Abhushan Bhandar in the Bikramganj market under the Bikramganj police station area, triggering panic among local traders and prompting demands for swift police action.
Five Men Allegedly Entered Shop Armed
According to police and eyewitnesses, five helmet-clad men with their faces covered entered the jewellery shop carrying firearms.
The shopkeeper, Praneet Kumar, alleged that the men threatened to kill him if he resisted before collecting jewellery displayed inside the shop.
An employee and a jewellery artisan were also present at the time of the incident.
After carrying out the robbery, the suspects reportedly fled the shop on foot before escaping from the area.
Shopkeeper Claims Losses Of Up To Rs 35 Lakh
Praneet Kumar told police that jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh to Rs 35 lakh had been stolen during the robbery.
However, police said their preliminary assessment suggested the value of the stolen ornaments was closer to Rs 10 lakh, adding that the exact loss would be determined during the investigation.
Police Reviewing CCTV Footage
A police team reached the scene shortly after the incident and began collecting evidence.
Bikramganj SDPO Sindhu Shekhar Singh said the initial investigation confirmed that five men had entered the shop, while investigators suspect additional accomplices may have remained outside to facilitate the escape.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the area and investigating all possible leads to identify those involved.
The case remains under investigation, and no arrests had been announced at the time of writing.
