Rohtas: A businessman was beaten to death with sticks in Rohtas district, Bihar, on Thursday in the second murder reported in the region within 24 hours, triggering fear and public anger over what residents claim is police inaction.
The latest killing took place near Ramdihra station in Amjhor, where Virendra Kumar, a resident of Jagodih village and son of Pachchu Singh, was attacked and killed, reportedly over a land dispute. Police have arrested two of his relatives, Arjun Mahato and Alok Mehta, in connection with the crime.
Circle Inspector Sohail Ahmed confirmed the arrest and said Kumar’s body has been sent to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. “Further action will follow once the victim’s family files an official complaint. Tensions are high between the two families, and security has been deployed in the area,” he said.
Rohtas Superintendent of Police Roshan Kumar stated that the murder appeared to stem from a personal dispute, and raids were ongoing to apprehend any other suspects involved. “This is a serious matter, and all possible leads are being investigated,” he added.
The murder comes less than a day after another killing in the same police station jurisdiction. On Wednesday night, 55-year-old farmer Parasnath Singh was found dead in Amra village, believed to have been attacked with a sharp weapon. His family also cited a land dispute as the motive.
Residents have criticised the local police for their delayed response to Singh’s killing, claiming officers arrived more than two hours after being informed.
