Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Thursday arrested Rosera Land Reforms Deputy Collector (DCLR) Kanchan Kumari Jha for allegedly accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe, according to information available from officials familiar with the operation.
Following the arrest, a Vigilance team searched Jha’s official residence in Rosera, in Samastipur district. Around Rs 13 lakh in cash was reportedly recovered during the search, though the recovery and its source are yet to be officially detailed.
Complaint Led To Vigilance Operation
According to sources, a resident of Vibhutipur had approached the Vigilance Investigation Bureau alleging that Jha had demanded a bribe.
The bureau subsequently conducted a verification of the complaint. After the allegations were reportedly found to have prima facie substance, the Vigilance team proceeded with the operation.
At around 9am on Thursday, the team reached Jha’s official residence in Rosera and took her into custody after allegedly catching her accepting the Rs 2 lakh bribe.
Residence Searched
After the arrest, Vigilance officials cordoned off the residence and began a detailed search of the premises.
The team examined documents, property records, bank-related papers and files linked to land matters. Officials also scrutinised documents relating to assets, bank accounts and lockers.
Security personnel were deployed at the entry and exit points while the search was under way.
Officials Yet To Release Detailed Statement
Vigilance officials at the site have not publicly disclosed the full details of the operation or the items recovered from the residence.
Officials said further information would be provided after the search and investigation are completed.
Jha is currently being questioned by the Vigilance team. The bureau is also examining the documents and cash recovered during the search.
The case has caused a stir in administrative circles in Rosera and Samastipur. Further details are expected once the Vigilance Department completes its operation and formally releases information about the case.
