Saran: Sabita Mahto, an international endurance athlete from Bihar’s Saran district, has completed a 265-km ultra-run from Leh to Mig La Pass, one of the world’s highest motorable passes, at an altitude of about 19,400 feet.

Mahto, who comes from the Diyara region of Panapur block, completed the challenge in six days. The expedition involved running at high altitude, where low oxygen levels, sub-zero temperatures, strong winds and changing weather conditions posed significant physical challenges.

Endurance At High Altitude

The route exposed Mahto to difficult conditions at elevations exceeding 19,000 feet. Reduced oxygen availability and freezing temperatures required sustained physical endurance and careful adaptation to the environment.

The 265-km distance, combined with the high-altitude terrain, made the expedition a demanding test of endurance and mental resilience.

From Saran Village To International Expeditions

Mahto grew up in a financially constrained family in Saran’s rural Diyara region. Despite limited resources, she pursued endurance sports through disciplined training and went on to participate in national and international-level challenges.

Her journey has included several high-altitude endurance expeditions. In 2022, she completed a 1,200-km solo cycling expedition from New Delhi to Umling La Pass.

She later completed a 570-km ultra-run from Manali to Umling La and also participated in an expedition to Mount Everest.

The Mig La run adds another major high-altitude endurance challenge to her sporting career.

Message To Women And Youth

Mahto said the expedition was intended to send a message to young people, particularly women, that limited resources should not prevent them from pursuing their goals when they have confidence and determination.

She credited her family, Sulabh International, the Path Foundation and her associates for supporting the expedition.

Mahto also thanked the Indian Army, Border Roads Organisation’s Project Himank, the Ladakh administration and local police for supporting the expedition and helping ensure safety during the run.
