Samastipur: A man in Samastipur district was allegedly murdered by his wife and her lover in the early hours of Saturday, following a prolonged domestic dispute rooted in infidelity. Police have identified the deceased as 30-year-old Sonu Kumar Jha, a resident of Laguniya Raghukanth Goriyari in Ward 46 under the Mufassil police station area.
According to the victim’s father, Tuntun Jha, Sonu was killed inside his own home by his wife, Asmita Kumari (27), and her alleged lover, Hari Om Jha (25), who had been tutoring the couple’s four-year-old son. He claimed the affair began nearly a year ago and continued despite multiple confrontations and warnings.
On Saturday morning, Sonu’s body was discovered on the floor of his house. He was reportedly found in his undergarments, with visible injuries, including a broken hand, wounds near the eye, and signs of strangulation. Blood was seen coming from his nose and mouth, the family said.
The victim’s father alleged that Hari Om had entered the house late at night and conspired with Asmita to lock Sonu in a room, beat him until he lost consciousness, and then strangle him to death. He added that the back door of the house was found open, raising questions about possible external involvement. “This murder could not have been committed by one person alone. There are deep injuries on multiple parts of his body,” he said.
Sonu had reportedly asked his wife to end the affair and had barred Hari Om from entering their home after learning about their relationship. However, the two continued to meet in secret, leading to frequent quarrels between the couple.
Sonu, who drove an e-rickshaw for a living, had been married to Asmita for eight years. Their relationship had been strained for years, with Asmita frequently returning to her maternal home. The couple has two children—a four-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
The police have sent the body for postmortem and begun an investigation. Asmita and Hari Om are currently under police watch, though no formal arrests have been announced.
