Patna: Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday flagged off the “Nari Shakti for Viksit Bharat Run” in Patna on Friday morning. The event, organised as part of the Nari Shakti Vandan Abhiyan, was held at Digha roundabout along the JP Ganga Path, where Choudhary inaugurated the run and participated in a signature campaign linked to the initiative.
He was welcomed at the venue by Shreyasi Singh, MLA, who presented him with a bouquet and a traditional stole. Several women participants were present, greeting the chief minister as the event commenced.
Focus On Women’s Political Representation
Addressing the gathering, Choudhary described the event as a celebration of “Nari Shakti” and linked it to broader efforts to enhance women’s representation in governance.
He said that ongoing legislative developments aimed at expanding women’s participation in Parliament could mark a “historic moment” if implemented, noting that increased reservation would enable women to play a more decisive role in national policymaking.

Bihar’s Reservation Model Highlighted
The chief minister also referred to earlier initiatives in Bihar under Nitish Kumar, which introduced 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, saying the policy had strengthened grassroots participation and encouraged women’s leadership.
He reiterated support for expanding women’s representation in legislative bodies, calling for collective backing for such measures.
Dignitaries Attend Event
The programme was attended by several public representatives and officials, including MLAs Rama Nishad and Sangeeta Kumari, Patna mayor Sita Sahu, district magistrate Thyagarajan S. M. and senior superintendent of police Kartikeya K. Sharma.

A large number of women took part in the run, which organisers said aimed to promote awareness around women’s empowerment and participation in public life.
