Sasaram: The Sasaram rail flyover (RFO) project is now nearing completion and is expected to start operations soon. More than 80% of the work, including track laying and electrification, has been completed. The only task left is to connect the new rail line with Sasaram Junction and the Ara line.
One of the major hurdles was the rack point near the railway stadium, which blocked the connection of the RFO line. To solve this, work has started to reduce the width of the railway stadium by 15 metres on the north side so that the rack point can be shifted further south. Once this is done, the line will be connected to Sasaram Junction.
This project is very important for train operations in the area. At present, trains going from Sasaram to Ara disturb the movement of freight trains on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). To let these trains pass, the DFC line has to be stopped for some time, which causes delays. After the flyover becomes operational, freight trains will run without any break, and passenger train operations will also become smoother.
Railway officials have said that a 20-foot-high wall is being built on the north side of the stadium to prevent dust from flying inside due to the movement of vehicles and trains. This is being done to keep the stadium safe and clean while maintaining safety standards.
Development work under the Amrit Bharat scheme is also going on at Sasaram Junction. A new shed was to be constructed near the station building, but the work has been stopped because a 100-foot-high flag post is standing in the way. The foundation to shift the flag post has already been prepared, and officials are waiting for the electricity department to move it to a new place so that shed construction can start again.
