Seminar on Net Zero Carbon Emission Held at East Central Railway Headquarters

Seminar on Net Zero Carbon Emission

Patna: In a concerted effort towards achieving the ambitious target of ‘Net Zero Carbon Emission,’ a seminar centered on energy conservation policy took place at the East Central Railway Headquarters in Hajipur on Wednesday. The event was presided over by ECR’s General Manager Anil Kumar Khandelwal.

Recognizing the pivotal role of East Central Railway in environmental stewardship, the organization is actively bolstering its commitment to energy conservation through extensive railway electrification and the Head on Generation (HOG) system.

Acknowledging that the advancement of any society hinges on a robust communication and transportation infrastructure, there is a paramount need to ensure that the means of transport driving the country’s progress are environmentally sustainable. In line with this ethos, East Central Railway has electrified a remarkable 98 percent of railway sections, with an ambitious target of achieving 100 percent electrification by the end of December. The organization has also undertaken various eco-friendly initiatives, including the installation of solar panels, the operation of trains through the HOG system, provision of LED lights, upgrading stations to granny status, conversion of traditional passenger train rakes into Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) rakes, and extensive tree plantation.

The holistic approach towards environmental sustainability positions Indian Railways on the trajectory to become the world’s largest green railway. A formidable target has been set to transform the Indian Railways into a zero-carbon emitter by the year 2030.
