Patna: A seven-year-old child was caught in the crossfire after a violent clash between two groups escalated into gunfire in Patna district. The incident occurred in Jillal Bigha village, Rewan Panchayat, under Masaurhi police station, where dozens of rounds were reportedly fired.
Authorities have registered an FIR against 50 individuals in connection with the violence, and four arrests have been made so far.
Minor Dispute Turns Into Gun Battle
According to police sources, what started as a minor altercation quickly spiraled into a full-blown conflict, with both sides resorting to stone pelting before firearms were drawn. Amid the chaos, a child, who had been visiting his maternal grandparents, was hit by a bullet while on his way to a nearby shop.
The injured boy was initially taken to a local hospital before being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for further treatment. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg but is said to be out of danger.
Masaurhi’s Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Nabh Vaibhav, confirmed the incident, stating: “We received information about a clash and subsequent gunfire between two families. A seven-year-old child was shot in the leg and has been admitted to the hospital. He is currently stable. Police have launched an investigation, and some individuals have been detained.”
Buffalo Traders’ Rivalry Turns Violent
The dispute is believed to have stemmed from a long-standing rivalry between two buffalo traders, Sudhir Yadav and Nagina Yadav, both residents of Jillal Bigha. The two reportedly clashed during Holika Dahan, the ceremonial bonfire preceding Holi, and tensions flared again during the festival itself, culminating in the violent confrontation.
