Patna: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited flood-affected areas of Raghopur in Vaishali on Wednesday to assess the situation and take stock of losses suffered by farmers.
The two leaders visited Terasia and surrounding areas, travelling by tractor through stretches affected by flooding and waterlogging. They interacted with residents and farmers to understand the difficulties caused by the floods.
Focus On Crop Damage
A key focus of the visit was the impact of flooding on agriculture. Chouhan and Choudhary inspected fields in Terasia and other affected areas to assess crop damage and spoke to farmers about their losses.
Several villages in Raghopur have been affected as rising water levels in the Ganges inundated agricultural fields in the Raghopur Diara region. Local relief and rescue operations are also underway.
A central team is separately assessing the damage caused by the floods.
Relief And Rescue Under Review
During the visit, the two leaders interacted with flood-affected residents and heard their grievances. A high-level meeting with senior officials is scheduled at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to review the flood situation, relief and rescue operations, and agricultural losses.
A team of senior officials from the Union Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development is accompanying Chouhan as part of the ground-level assessment.

Rs 579.23 Crore Transferred To Flood-Affected Families
On Tuesday, September 15, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary initiated the transfer of Rs 579.23 crore in ex-gratia assistance directly into the bank accounts of 8,27,472 flood-affected families through Direct Benefit Transfer.
The assistance is being provided at the rate of Rs 7,000 per family.
The Raghopur visit comes against the backdrop of the ongoing relief measures and the assessment of flood damage at both state and central levels. Information gathered through interactions with farmers will form part of the assessment of crop losses and their demands for assistance.
The process of deciding further assistance will proceed after the damage assessment is completed.
Former Raghopur MLA Satish Yadav, along with local public representatives and officials, was also present during the visit.
