Buxar: Sonpa village in Chausa block of Bihar’s Buxar district is in a festive mood. The reason is the success of Shubham Kumar, who has been commissioned as a lieutenant in the Indian Army. His achievement has not only brought joy to his family but also filled the entire area with pride. People are calling it a moment of honour for the district.
Shubham comes from a family with a strong tradition of serving the country. His late father, Jairam Chaudhary, was also a soldier in the Army, and his grandfather, Ramaiya Chaudhary, too served in uniform. Despite losing her husband early, Shubham’s mother, Meera Devi, worked hard to raise her children with discipline and courage. Her strength and dedication gave Shubham the confidence to follow his dream.
From an early age, Shubham was bright in his studies and disciplined in his habits. He did his schooling in his village and later cleared the tough National Defence Academy (NDA) examination. After three years of strict training, he joined the Officer Training Academy (OTA) in Gaya. On Saturday, during the passing out parade, he officially became a lieutenant in the Indian Army. His younger brother, Shivam Kumar, is also making the family proud by studying MBBS in Kerala.
Shubham’s mother said that becoming an Army officer was her son’s dream since childhood. “Even after his father’s death, we never let him lose hope. We gave him freedom to study and encouraged him to aim high,” she added. Local leaders and social workers, including Makardhwaj Singh and Raju Singh, also congratulated Shubham. They said his journey shows that hard work and determination can overcome any challenge, and his success will inspire many other young people in the region.
