Siwan/Patna:The Siwan administration has initiated a set of measures to address persistent issues such as waterlogging, waste management, ageing drainage infrastructure and increasing traffic pressure in the town.

The decisions were taken at a meeting held at the district collectorate, chaired by Sadar MLA and Estimates Committee chairperson Mangal Pandey. Administrative officials, municipal representatives and public representatives participated in the nearly three-hour discussion on urban development and civic services.

New vehicles planned for waste collection

The meeting focused on strengthening the town’s sanitation system. Officials said around 20 covered tipper vehicles would be procured within the next month to improve the efficiency of door-to-door waste collection.

The move is expected to streamline waste transportation and support municipal cleanliness efforts.

Dustbins for households across 45 wards

Under the proposed waste segregation initiative, nearly 38,000 households in the municipal area’s 45 wards will receive two dustbins each for separating wet and dry waste.

Officials said the measure would strengthen solid waste management and improve disposal practices at the source.

Drainage gaps to be addressed within 30 days

With the monsoon approaching, authorities have prepared a plan to improve drainage and reduce waterlogging. The meeting noted that incomplete drainage networks and missing links in several areas were affecting water flow.

Officials were directed to identify such locations and complete corrective works within 30 days.

Monitoring of sanitation services

The sanitation officer has been instructed to monitor cleanliness operations twice daily, in the morning and evening, to ensure regular supervision of municipal services.

The administration said the objective was to improve accountability and maintain service standards.

Review of 1,800 development projects

Officials informed the meeting that around 1,800 development projects are currently being implemented within the municipal area.

A review team will be constituted to examine the projects after concerns were raised regarding coordination and payment-related issues. Authorities said the exercise would help improve transparency and implementation quality.

Plans for Gandhi Maidan and Daha River

The meeting also discussed proposals for the development of key public spaces. A plan will be prepared for the beautification of Gandhi Maidan and the expansion of public amenities at the site.

Authorities also discussed initiatives for the beautification of the Daha River.

Public representatives raise local concerns

Several public representatives highlighted local infrastructure issues during the meeting.

Deputy Chief Councillor Kiran Gupta sought cleaning of drains between Gandhi Maidan and Chirai Ghar and improvements to drainage in the Champ area. Standing Committee member Archana Devi called for completion of an unfinished school building, reconstruction of a damaged drain and relocation of a waste collection point.

Committee member Pooja Devi raised concerns over encroachments on the main drain between Fatehpur Bypass and Mahadeva and urged action before the monsoon season.

Focus on long-term civic improvements

Officials said the measures are intended to improve urban infrastructure and civic services across Siwan. The effectiveness of the initiatives will depend on timely implementation and execution of the proposed works.

  • 🚨 The Income Tax Department is probing an alleged ₹6,000-crore tax evasion scheme linked to donations made to certain unrecognised political parties. Investigators suspect that some donors claimed tax deductions under Section 80GGC after making bank transfers, while a large portion of the donated amount was allegedly returned through unofficial channels. The probe is ongoing, and no findings of wrongdoing have been established by any court. Officials say any legal action will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation.

  • 🩺 Former intern doctors at GMCH Purnea staged a protest after alleging that their stipends for the last four months remain unpaid even after completing their internship on June 25. They also opposed being asked to vacate the hostel before receiving their dues, saying it has created financial hardship. The college administration said the delay was due to technical reasons and assured that the pending stipend is likely to be credited within the next one or two days, while maintaining that hostel rooms must be vacated as per institutional rules to accommodate the incoming batch of interns.
