Siwan/Patna: A Mukhiya (village headman) was shot dead in Siwan on Wednesday evening, triggering panic in the area amid renewed concerns over law and order in Bihar. The attack took place near the Fulwaria turn in Raghunathpur, where the victim, 55-year-old Radha Sah, was gunned down while returning home from the market.
Sah, the elected head of Gopi Pattev panchayat, had almost reached the turn when two men on a motorcycle intercepted him and opened fire, according to eyewitnesses. He was shot in the temple at point-blank range. Locals rushed him to the Raghunathpur Referral Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Raghunathpur police station officer Manoj Kumar confirmed the killing. “The Mukhiya was shot dead. He was hit in the temple. The matter is under investigation and the culprits will be arrested soon,” he said.
Residents reported that Sah had been travelling with two others on a motorcycle when the attackers stopped them and fired before speeding away. The precision of the attack and the criminals’ swift escape have fuelled speculation of political motives, though police said it is too early to draw conclusions.
A police team reached the spot shortly after the incident and began an investigation, collecting CCTV footage from the area and questioning locals. The murder has sparked fear in the region, with villagers describing the killing as a sign of worsening insecurity despite government claims of a crackdown on crime.
Police said all possible angles, including local disputes and political rivalry, are being examined.
