Siwan: Several passenger trains operating from Siwan in Bihar have been cancelled until mid-February, in a move that is affecting thousands of daily commuters who rely on rail services for work, education and business. The extended suspension of services has sparked concern among passengers across the Siwan, Gorakhpur and Samastipur rail corridors.
Ashok Kumar, public relations officer of the Varanasi railway division, said four passenger trains would remain cancelled until the middle of the month. Train number 55041, operating between Siwan and Gorakhpur Cantonment, will be suspended from February 2 to 16 , while train number 55042, running from Gorakhpur Cantonment to Siwan, will not operate from February 1 to 15 .
Passenger services between Siwan and Samastipur have also been affected. Trains 55122 (Siwan–Samastipur) and 55121 (Samastipur–Siwan) will remain cancelled from February 2 to 16, the railway administration said, citing operational reasons and resource adjustments.
The cancellations have caused widespread inconvenience for regular travellers, with many office workers reporting delays and students struggling to attend classes and examinations. Passengers said they were forced to use buses or private vehicles, which take longer and significantly increase travel costs, hitting middle- and low-income groups the hardest.
Commuters have urged the railway authorities to either restore the cancelled services at the earliest or introduce alternative passenger trains to ease the burden. In the meantime, the railway administration has advised travellers to check train status before starting their journey and make alternative travel arrangements where necessary.
