Gayaji: Six foreign women arriving at Gayaji International Airport on Saturday were stopped by immigration officials after doubts were raised about their visa documents. The women had travelled from Thailand on an AirAsia flight and were trying to enter India. During the routine immigration check, officers noticed that their visas did not match the required standards. Out of the six passengers, five were from Malaysia and one was from Singapore.
As soon as the irregularities were confirmed, immigration officials decided not to allow the women to leave the airport. According to airport director Awadhesh Kumar, the passengers were moved to a safe area inside the airport building for security reasons. The authorities ensured full arrangements for their stay, including food and accommodation, so that they did not face any difficulty while the matter was being investigated.
After final verification, officials decided that the six women would be sent back to Thailand as per immigration rules. They will be repatriated on the scheduled return AirAsia flight on Sunday. All relevant government agencies have been informed so that the process takes place smoothly and according to security guidelines. Officials also said that the women cooperated throughout the inquiry and there was no disturbance at the airport.
This is the third day in a row that foreign travellers arriving from Thailand have been stopped for visa failure. On Friday, a woman from Thailand was deported after her visa was found invalid. Because of repeated incidents in such a short time, Gayaji Airport authorities have now decided to further strengthen the immigration checking system. Officials said that more strict monitoring and document verification will be carried out to ensure that no one enters the country with false or doubtful visas.
