Patna: Kishanganj has scripted a new chapter in its sporting history with six young cricketers earning selection to the Bihar Women’s Cricket Team for the upcoming national-level T20 tournament.
The achievement is being viewed as a landmark moment for women’s cricket in the district, with four players selected in the Under-19 category and two in the Under-15 squad. Sports enthusiasts say the selections underline the growing strength of cricket infrastructure and coaching opportunities for girls in the Seemanchal region.
Four Players Named in U-19 Squad
The district’s strongest representation has come in the Under-19 category, where four cricketers secured places in the Bihar team.
The selected players are Tania, Shruti, Muskan and Lakkhi Kumari.
Their performances during trials and district-level competitions helped them earn spots in the state squad for the upcoming tournament.
Two Young Talents Make U-15 Team
Kishanganj also registered success in the Under-15 category, with Siya Chauhan and Sakshi Saha being selected for Bihar’s junior women’s team.
Officials described the selections as an encouraging sign for the future of women’s cricket in the district, highlighting the emergence of a strong pipeline of young talent.
Years of Grassroots Work Begin Delivering Results
Local cricket administrators have credited the achievement to sustained efforts by the Kishanganj District Cricket Association (KDCA), led by president Sangeeta Jain and vice-president Motahera Jabi.
Over the past few years, the association has organised dedicated training camps for girls, provided cricket equipment and facilitated selection trials under the guidance of state-level officials.
The initiatives have helped increase participation in women’s cricket and encouraged more families to support their daughters in pursuing the sport.
District Celebrates Historic Achievement
Following the announcement, KDCA secretary Tabrez Alam and other cricket officials visited the selected players and their families to congratulate them on the achievement.
Alam said the selections marked only the beginning of a larger journey and expressed confidence that Kishanganj could emerge as one of Bihar’s leading centres for women’s cricket development in the coming years.
Celebrations were reported across the district as the players resumed intensive fitness and practice sessions ahead of the national tournament.
Eyes on National Recognition
The six cricketers are now preparing for the upcoming T20 competition, where they will aim to deliver strong performances for Bihar and attract the attention of national selectors.
For the players, the immediate goal is to help Bihar succeed at the tournament, while the long-term dream remains earning a place in India’s women’s cricket setup.
