Patna: Five people, including an auto-rickshaw driver and three passengers travelling to catch a flight to Dubai, were injured after a speeding car crashed into a parked auto-rickshaw on Atal Path late Thursday evening. The driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the accident, police said.
The injured have been identified as Khurshid Alam, a resident of Siwan, Arman from Gopalganj, Raja, and the auto-rickshaw driver. Another person also sustained injuries in the incident. All the injured were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Dubai-Bound Passengers Among the Injured
According to police and eyewitnesses, Khurshid Alam, Arman and Raja were travelling to Patna Airport to board a flight to Dubai when the accident occurred.
Khurshid Alam suffered a fractured leg, while Arman and Raja sustained serious injuries. Their current medical condition has not been officially disclosed.
Auto Was Parked Due to a Puncture
The auto-rickshaw driver told police that he had parked the vehicle on the roadside to replace a punctured tyre.
He said he was preparing to resume the journey to the airport with the passengers when the speeding Swift Dzire allegedly hit a road divider, lost control and crashed into the parked auto-rickshaw.
Traffic Affected, Locals Rescue Victims
The collision caused temporary disruption on Atal Path, with traffic affected for around 20 minutes.
Local residents rushed to the spot, rescued the injured from the damaged auto-rickshaw and informed the police and ambulance services. The victims were subsequently shifted to hospital.
Police Examine CCTV Footage
A Dial-112 police team reached the scene, cleared the damaged vehicles and restored traffic movement.
Police have registered a case and launched a search for the car driver, who remains absconding. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed along Atal Path to identify the vehicle and trace the driver.
Speeding Suspected as Primary Cause
Preliminary information and eyewitness accounts indicate that the car was travelling at a high speed before the driver allegedly lost control and struck the road divider.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and all aspects of the accident are being examined.
