Patna: A tragic road accident in Patna’s Jamunichak village of Barh on Monday evening claimed the lives of 5 people after a speeding Thar SUV ran them over. Among the dead were 4 members of the same family, including children, while 1 person was seriously injured and admitted to hospital.
According to locals, the victims were sitting near the approach road of an under-construction four-lane highway when the vehicle lost control and hit them. The incident triggered outrage in the area, with angry villagers blocking the road and staging a protest. Heavy police deployment was made to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Residents alleged that the victims were forced to sit along the roadside due to the lack of basic amenities, including proper housing and toilets. “The poor have neither got government houses nor toilets. Where else will they go?” one villager said.
Police officials on the spot were seen negotiating with the villagers to restore calm. The families of the victims were inconsolable, and the atmosphere in the village remained tense late into the night.
