Darbhanga: Passengers travelling from Darbhanga to Delhi on SpiceJet flight SG 447 faced extreme hardship on Sturday after being left stranded for nearly nine hours before the flight was abruptly cancelled.
The flight, scheduled to take off at 11.40 am, kept passengers waiting without clear communication. By evening, the airline cancelled the flight, triggering anger and protests at the airport. Many passengers accused the airline of lying and harassment, citing that neither hotel accommodation nor alternative transport was arranged despite repeated requests.
A woman passenger from Ragholi village in Madhubani district said she had been at the airport since early morning and was forced to survive on instant noodles, with no crew members or air hostesses visible for assistance. She added that the airport’s remote location and lack of security heightened passengers’ distress.
Another passenger, an elderly man from Benipatti, who was travelling to Delhi for medical treatment, said his hospital appointment was missed due to the cancellation. Many business travellers and daily wage workers also expressed helplessness as their plans were disrupted despite booking tickets months in advance.
Passengers alleged that women were asked to spend the night at the airport, with some staff reportedly telling them they had no funds to arrange rooms. Attempts to book hotels online failed as no rooms were available in Darbhanga.
The airline has not issued any official apology or detailed statement regarding the incident at the time of publication.
