Patna: Primary school students at St Michael’s High School brought science to life on Thursday as the school’s primary section hosted its annual science exhibition, offering a glimpse into young minds grappling with questions of energy, environment and accessibility.
Held on December 18 from 8:30 am to 1:30 p.m., the exhibition aimed to foster scientific curiosity and encourage hands-on learning among students. The event was inaugurated by the school’s rector, Fr Norbert Menezes SJ, principal Fr A. Christu Savarirajan SJ, vice principal Sr Magdali Beck SSH, and Fr Nicholas, alongside academic experts and judges, in the presence of parents, teachers and students.

Dozens of exhibits lined the exhibition hall, ranging from practical household innovations to concept-driven scientific models. Students demonstrated working prototypes of water purifiers, vacuum cleaners, pollution-detection devices, hydroelectric power generators, sensor-based cars, automatic street lights and handmade microscopes.

Several projects focused on inclusive technology, including sensor-enabled spectacles designed to assist visually impaired people. Others explored fundamental scientific principles through models such as hydraulic JCBs, electromagnets, motor boats, sand clocks and devices illustrating the conversion of mechanical energy into electricity.

Environmental concerns featured prominently, with students presenting models and explanations addressing environmental degradation, its long-term effects and possible solutions. Interactive science activities were also conducted during the inaugural session, with the potato and lemon battery experiments and a hydraulic Chandrayaan model emerging as particular crowd-pullers.

Judges praised the originality of the projects and the confidence with which students explained complex ideas, encouraging them to continue exploring science beyond the classroom. Parents and invitees commended both the students’ efforts and the guidance provided by teachers in shaping the exhibition.
